GM vehicles under federal scrutiny after hundreds of reports

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has expanded its investigation of General Motors’ eBoost brake-by-wire system after receiving 227 incident reports, rising to 745 when GM’s own reports are included. The system can fracture a spindle while driving, and NHTSA reports that eBoost failures are followed by immediate loss of braking, leading to 22 crashes, six injuries, and no fatalities among more than 1.1 million affected vehicles.
