Gmail verification program lets political campaigns escape its spam filter

Google will launch a Gmail Verified Sender Program on September 8 that lets U.S. political committees bypass Gmail’s spam filter if they use a verified domain and keep spam-mark rates below 0.3%. Participants must meet strict security and compliance standards, while users retain controls such as marking messages as spam, blocking senders, and unsubscribing. The program follows earlier disputes with the Republican National Committee over alleged email censorship.
