Google is trying to solve contrails with AI

Operation Blue Skies, a 30-month trial over Shanwick airspace, will use AI-driven forecasts to make vertical flight-path adjustments of up to 2,000 feet for 1-5% of the 10,000 annual flights, aiming to reduce contrail formation. Google supplies the AI models and £1.4 million, while the UK government funds over half of the £5 million budget, with NATS, Contrails.org, the Met Office, Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge participating.
