Google signs its biggest rice-methane carbon credit deal with Indian startup Mitti Labs

Google will buy 1 million carbon credits from Indian startup Mitti Labs through 2030, financing methane-reduction practices on rice farms in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The methods cut emissions about 50% and water use roughly 40% while maintaining yields. The four-year deal, the largest publicly announced methane-focused credit transaction, funds Mitti Labs’ GeoAI platform to monitor fields via satellite radar and field data, aiming to reach millions of farmers by 2030.
