Google tests buying from Walmart-owned Flipkart through Gemini and AI Mode in India
Google is testing a “Buy” button that lets Indian users purchase select Flipkart products—smartphones, electronics, and mobile accessories—directly from Gemini and AI Mode, redirecting them to a Flipkart checkout flow without leaving the AI interface. The limited rollout targets a small user group and product set, with a broader launch planned for later in October ahead of India’s festive shopping season. Flipkart, a Walmart-owned retailer, is a partner in Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, and Google has invested about $350 million in the company.
