Google will limit how much memory Android apps can use from February 2027

From February 2027, Android apps that exceed per-app memory limits will be throttled, possibly terminated, and may lose visibility on Google Play. On 8 GB devices the foreground cap is 2.25 GB, with 1.5 GB each for user-perceived services and background, and bitmap memory limited to 200 MB (400 MB cached). Devices with more than 16 GB of RAM are largely exempt. Google also mandates DEX code optimisation, warning that non-compliant apps could suffer lower search rankings and publishing restrictions.
