Google’s revived nuclear power plant gets $1.9B loan from US government

The U.S. Department of Energy approved a $1.9 billion loan for NextEra Energy to refurbish Iowa’s Duane Arnold nuclear plant, aiming for a 2029 restart that will provide 615 MW of capacity, including 14 MW of new output. Google intends to build up to six nearby data centers, while other tech firms are securing revived reactors at Three Mile Island (835 MW) and Illinois’ Clinton Clean Energy Center (1.1 GW) to meet rising AI-driven electricity demand.
