Hackers publish thousands of drivers’ data after breaching Florida motor vehicle database
The ShinyHunters group breached Florida’s DAVID motor-vehicle database in September, exfiltrating hundreds of thousands of vehicle ownership certificates containing owners’ names, addresses, and VINs. They also stole a smaller set of files with Social Security numbers, passports, and immigration documents. After the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles agency refused to pay the ransom, the group released the data publicly. The breach occurred concurrently with a separate hack of IDScan that exposed over 150 million driver-license images.
