Hikers rescued after using Google Gemini for planning

Three hikers ascended Mount Shasta after starting at 3 a.m., reaching the summit at 7 p.m. despite the noon turn-back guideline, then attempted a night descent and spent the night in Mud Creek Canyon before being rescued by Forest Service rangers. The sheriff’s office said Gemini advised them to carry insufficient food and water, prompting a warning to consult the USFS ranger station and not rely solely on AI for planning.
