How to choose the right USB to USB-C adapter

USB-A to USB-C adapters differ by USB version: USB 2.0 tops at 480 Mbps and 5 V/0.5 A (≈2.5 W, up to 7.5 W with a wall charger). USB 3.0 supports 5 Gbps, while USB 3.2 Gen 2 reaches 10 Gbps, with laptop ports delivering ~7.5 W and wall chargers up to 12–15 W. External drives require a USB 3.0 adapter; mice, keyboards, and wearables work with lower-speed models. Select brands with UL or CE certification and over-voltage protection to prevent overheating or port damage.
