How to know if your USB-C ports can support video

USB-C ports that support video use DisplayPort Alternate Mode, requiring the device, cable, and display to all be DP-Alt-Mode compatible. Thunderbolt 3–5 and USB4 guarantee this capability, while older USB-3.1/3.2 devices may or may not support it depending on the manufacturer. If a port lacks DP-Alt-Mode, an HDMI 2.0 or higher cable can provide comparable 8K or HDR output, or an active USB-A to dual-HDMI adapter can be used, though it adds bandwidth overhead.
