Hybrids are outselling everything in Europe. That’s bad news for 2035

In the United States, 42.6% of second-quarter EV trade-ins were for combustion cars and 15.6% for hybrids, driven by the end of the $7,500 federal credit and higher lease costs. In the EU, hybrids accounted for 37.3% of registrations in H1, prompting the Commission to propose allowing plug-in and mild hybrids to remain legal after the 2035 emissions-reduction target.
