I Cut 80%+ of Context Overhead in My Coding Agent

The author reduced the context overhead of a coding agent by more than 80% by consolidating tools into action-based schemas and activating only a baseline of four tools, placing the rest on standby with automatic TTL cleanup. In a benchmark, the Codex harness loaded 79 tools and consumed 14,534 tokens on the first turn, wasting 6% of its 258k token window, whereas the new dynamic-tool approach eliminates that static token bloat without breaking prompt caching.
