The Ark of the Covenant, built from acacia wood and gold as instructed in 1 Samuel, served as Israel’s portable throne and housed the Ten Commandments. It was carried in key battles—Jericho, Gibeah, the Jordan crossing—and later captured by the Philistines, who paraded it in Ashdod, causing divine retribution. The Ark’s repeated use as a symbolic banner illustrates how sacred objects can be repurposed beyond their original intent.
