The founders of Starcloud have created the non-profit Fermi Explorer to launch a 1-kg, 10 cm-square probe toward Alpha Centauri on an 80,000-year trajectory, costing roughly $15 million and targeting a 2029 rideshare launch. The craft will use existing electric propulsion, operate for about 12 years, then coast, hoping a future civilization will intercept it.
