India forces caller-ID apps to feed spam reports to telcos

TRAI amended India’s commercial-communication rules to mandate that caller-ID and call-management apps, such as Truecaller, forward user-flagged spam reports to a blockchain-based platform run by telecom operators. The platform aggregates reports to enforce anti-spam regulations, expanding the data pool available to operators. Truecaller argues the requirement transfers commercially valuable data to telecoms, calling it anti-competitive.
