Instagram’s ‘First Draft’ feature aims to make editing Reels less tedious

Instagram is rolling out “First Draft,” an iPhone-only feature that automatically trims selected clips, removes pauses and assembles a rough cut in under 10 seconds, letting creators start editing from a pre-made draft. The tool is built into the Reels camera and gallery, reducing the need for external editors and joining other Instagram creator updates such as Replace Audio, an upcoming AI assistant in Edits, and the tested Series grouping format.
