It's OK to hardcode feature flags (2025)
Hardcoded feature flags avoid the complexity, runtime-change requirements, and security surface introduced by dedicated flag-management systems, which add infrastructure, monitoring, and non-deterministic behavior. By storing flags in a simple JSON file read at startup and removing them once they become permanent, teams keep code deterministic, reduce technical debt, and maintain safe, reviewable changes.
