Lake Ontario Now Called Lake America on Google Maps

Google Maps now shows “Lake America” for U.S. users while Canadian and international users still see “Lake Ontario,” following President Donald Trump’s order to rename the lake amid a trade dispute with Canada. Google said the change follows its policy of using U.S. GNIS names, and the update rolls out globally with region-specific labels. Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded with a billboard reading “Lake Ontario. Now and forever.”
