Legal experts say Meta's settlement puts YouTube, TikTok and Snap on notice

Meta’s settlement with state attorneys general requires the company to enforce stricter age verification, limit teen notifications, cap screentime to two hours a day, and block use from midnight to 6 AM, while paying up to $18 billion to 48 states and four jurisdictions. The agreement ties roughly $5.3 billion of Meta’s payout to TikTok and YouTube agreeing to similar restrictions, potentially reducing their daily teen limits to 60 minutes and extending nighttime blocks to 7 AM if they comply. The judge must approve the terms, and the settlement may pressure Meta’s competitors to adopt comparable safety measures.
