Longest Straight Line Paths on Water or Land on the Earth (2018)

The paper formulates the longest uninterrupted sailing and driving routes on Earth as chaotic optimisation problems caused by islands, lakes, and fractal coastlines. Using a branch-and-bound algorithm, the author computes the maximal straight-line paths over water and over land, presenting the resulting distances and routes.
