Looking forward to Git 2.56 – and 3.0

Git 2.56 introduces the experimental `git history drop` command, improved `git refs` subcommands, and usability tweaks like `--delete-merged` for branch management. Maintainer Junio Hamano is currently evaluating whether to follow this release with Git 3.0, which will transition the default hash function from the vulnerable SHA-1 to the more secure SHA-256.
