MapQuest is now the No. 1 U.S. app after bucking Trump’s ‘Lake America’ renaming

MapQuest surged to the No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store after refusing President Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America,” while Google Maps and Apple Maps complied. The app logged roughly 632,000 U.S. downloads between August 27 and September 1, a 123% day-over-day increase and more than 50-fold growth versus the same period last year, bringing its total U.S. and Canada installs above 1.5 million. Users are actively engaging, submitting feature requests and bug reports, prompting the small team to work “around the clock” on new functionality.
