Massachusetts hits data centers with new clean power rules

Massachusetts requires data centers exceeding 25 MW to supply clean power that meets the state’s clean energy standard, generating at least 40% from wind, solar or hydro by 2030, or funding nearby generation or a ratepayer protection fund. The executive order pauses sales-tax exemption applications and directs communities to avoid non-disclosure agreements. This follows similar restrictions in Texas and New York, reflecting growing public opposition to large data-center projects.
