Meta says its AG deal requires it to create an age assurance standard that is subject to independent testing, with a false positive rate no higher than 10% (Lauren Feiner/The Verge)

Meta’s agreement with 52 U.S. state attorneys general mandates the creation of an age-verification standard that must undergo independent testing and achieve a false-positive rate of 10% or lower. The settlement imposes daily time limits for teen users and algorithmic feed controls, with roughly $5.3 billion contingent on YouTube and TikTok adopting comparable safeguards. Payments will be distributed to the 48 signing states and four jurisdictions over ten years, scaled to each jurisdiction’s population.
