Meta agreed to a settlement worth up to $16.7 billion that forces Instagram and Facebook to impose strict limits on teen users, including overnight blocks, two-hour daily caps, muted school-hour notifications, parental alerts for suspicious contacts, and default chronological feeds. The deal also adds age-verification tools and periodic parental reports, but child-safety experts question the measures’ efficacy and warn they embed extensive surveillance into the platforms.
