Meta settles states' child-safety claims for $18B; Florida rejects deal as "peanuts"

Meta will pay nearly $18 billion to settle child-safety claims in almost every U.S. state, ending a trial that sought over $1.4 trillion. The settlement requires court approval. Users under 18 must have a default two-hour daily limit, a midnight-to-6 a.m. block, and a school-mode mute from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Teens receive prompts every 15 minutes of continuous use and when their total daily usage reaches 60 and 90 minutes.
