Microsoft says virtually nobody was grabbing NYT articles through its chatbot

Microsoft’s legal filings show that Copilot rarely reproduces full sentences or substantive passages from news articles or books, even when queried with keywords tied to plaintiffs’ sites. In discovery, Microsoft supplied 8.2 million chat logs—selected for containing those keywords—to an expert, who found only 59,545 instances of any matching text. The company argues this demonstrates minimal use of copyrighted material.
