"Million-year-old" fossil skulls from China are far older—and not Denisovans

Two skulls from Yunxian, China, are the oldest known Homo erectus fossils in eastern Asia, dated to 1.77 million years old. They indicate Homo erectus spread across the continent earlier and faster than previously thought. This sheds new light on ancient stone tool makers in China.
