A Misalignment of AI in Mathematics

Twenty-five Fields Medalists have signed a declaration warning that the rapid rise of large-language models capable of solving major mathematical problems is misaligned with the goals of the mathematical community. They argue that AI-driven problem-solving prioritises speed over conceptual insight, threatens proper attribution, and undermines the collaborative, human-centered process that cultivates lasting mathematical ideas.
