More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
Japan has 107,677 centenarians, the most globally, 88% of whom are women. The oldest are 114-year-old Kishimoto Fuyo and 112-year-old Kato Hikaru. The health ministry attributes this to medical and dietary advances. The population is projected to shrink to 87 million by 2070, stressing social security. New elderly products, such as powered exoskeletons and auto-focus eyewear, have appeared amid a 1.14 fertility rate and a 30% population decline since 2008.
