NASA Cancels Its Rescue Mission for the Aging Swift Telescope

NASA cancelled the planned rescue of the Swift gamma-ray burst observatory after its partner spacecraft, Katalyst’s LINK, suffered attitude-control failures, preventing it from capturing Swift and boosting its orbit. Swift, launched in 2004, now faces re-entry before the end of 2026 due to increased atmospheric drag from heightened solar activity.
