NASA images show crater on the moon caused by SpaceX Falcon 9 crash

NASA released Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter images from Aug 11-12 showing a 60-foot-wide, 12-foot-deep crater formed when the upper stage of SpaceX’s Falcon 9, launched on Jan 15 2025 for the Blue Ghost mission, struck the Moon at 5,400 mph. The orbiter’s Narrow-Angle Camera, tilted downward while passing 60 miles overhead, captured the crater, ejecta, a dark streak of older surface material, and fresher subsurface material along the rim.
