Nitter is offline after seven years, shut down by cease-and-desist letters

X Corp sent cease-and-desist letters to the open-source Nitter project, ordering the permanent removal of all Nitter instances and its GitHub repository by 5 p.m. Eastern on 25 August. The letters cite alleged violations of the Texas Harmful Access by Computer Act and the Lanham Act. Consequently, Nitter.net and the XCancel front-end were taken offline, and remaining instances are attempting to stay operational.
