NYC bans AI use for students until they reach high school
New York City will prohibit students in grades K-8 from using AI tools in classrooms for the 2026-2027 school year, a one-year moratorium affecting roughly 600,000 public-school students. The policy, announced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, also bars teachers from using AI for grading and accompanies limits on digital devices and a pilot AI-education program.
