Oceans hit highest temperature on record
The European Copernicus climate service reported a global ocean surface temperature of 21.1 °C on Saturday, exceeding the 21.09 °C record set in March 2024. Buoy, ship and satellite data show the heat spreading beyond the Pacific, with the western English Channel experiencing a three-year marine heatwave that peaked 7 °C above normal.
