'Old Person Smell'
The “old-person smell” is caused by 2-nonenal, a compound released when skin lipids oxidize as fatty-acid composition changes with age. Detectable from around age 40, its level rises gradually and varies with genetics, microbiome, hygiene, clothing and environment. Blind tests found the scent to be less intense and less unpleasant than younger-age odors.
