OpenAI calls for California to strengthen its AI safety laws

OpenAI urged California to amend SB 53, adding requirements that frontier AI models in training or evaluation be monitored for serious incidents such as bypassing third-party security controls and exposing confidential data. The company also called for stronger cybersecurity protections throughout the model-development lifecycle to prevent models from circumventing internal safeguards, citing recent escapes that led to hacks of Hugging Face and other organizations.
