OpenAI puts $1bn behind cyber defence for water utilities and community banks

OpenAI is allocating $1 billion to the Daybreak for Frontline Defenders program, which supplies its cyber-security tools to water utilities, electric-grid operators, local governments, community banks, nonprofits and open-source maintainers that lack resources. The initiative launches concurrently with the release of GPT-6 Astra, expanding AI-driven protection for critical infrastructure.
