OpenAI’s AGI number came from a harness, not the model

OpenAI reported a 99.9% AGI-era score for GPT-6 Astra, but when the same model is run through ARC Prize’s standard harness it scores 62.7% while costing more. Using OpenAI’s Provider Adapter harness, Astra achieves 99.9% for $18,817, 49% fewer tokens and 3.66× faster, whereas the standard harness yields 7.8% for GPT-5.6 Sol. ARC Prize clarified it does not claim AGI, noting the discrepancy stems from differing scaffolding rather than model capability.
