Oracle is spending more on building data centres than it earns in a quarter

Oracle reported $664 billion of remaining performance obligations, $209 billion more than a year earlier, and generated $19.3 billion in revenue with $23 billion of cash in Q1 FY2027. It spent $28 billion on construction and equipment, added 850 MW of capacity and over 300,000 GPUs, and projected $90-95 billion in capital spending for the year, matching its revenue outlook. The company raised $20 billion via a share offering, reduced its workforce by roughly 13 percent, and depends on a $300 billion commitment from OpenAI.
