OpenTelemetry’s ambition to remain vendor-agnostic has led to a sprawling codebase that spans dozens of languages and hundreds of libraries, forcing developers to navigate numerous experimental APIs and a cumbersome core-vs-contrib split. Limited maintainer capacity and a binary stability gate create a “perfect storm” that stalls stable feature adoption and makes migration from vendor-specific SDKs difficult.
