Pangram Has Emerged as the Gold Standard of AI Detection. Should You Trust It?

Pangram, a 24-person AI startup, raised $13 million and claims its tool assigns a best-guess AI-involvement percentage to any text, reporting 78% for Mia Ballard’s novel, 100% for a New York Times Modern Love piece, and 97% for the thriller “Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body.” In July Substack integrated the detector; Jane Friedman warned the technology could be more harmful than the AI it tracks. The company recently closed a $9 million round, launched Pangram 4, and grew its staff by 25%.
