Pennsylvania sued Snap using an account it opened as a 13-year-old

Attorney General David Sunday filed a three-count complaint alleging Snap breached Pennsylvania’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law by rating Snapchat “13+” despite a test account showing cannabis references, alcohol use, opioid slang, and explicit sexual content. The suit also asserts that features such as ephemeral content, infinite scroll, push notifications, autoplay, Snap Scores, Snapstreaks, Charms, and the paid “Friend Solar System” badge are designed to be addictive and manipulate minors’ self-esteem, seeking injunctive relief, civil penalties, and cost reimbursement.
