Plug-in hybrids emit six times their official rating, and carmakers want the fix cancelled

Transport and Environment analyzed onboard monitor data from 220,000 EU plug-in hybrids registered in 2024 and found an average real-world CO2 emission of 145 g km−1, six times the official 24 g km−1 rating. The gap widened from five-fold in 2023, while actual emissions rose 5% and official figures fell 15%; manufacturers and the ACEA are lobbying to cancel the 2027 utility-factor correction that would tighten emissions calculations.
