Polestar claims it was blindsided by sales ban
The U.S. Commerce Department will prohibit Polestar from selling new vehicles starting with the 2027 model year under national-security rules that ban Chinese-sourced software. Polestar says the Trump administration delayed its decision for months, rejected its request without explanation, and granted Volvo continued sales despite similar ownership. The company’s August 18 letter to dealers, obtained by The Verge, notes the absence of a clear rationale for the denial.
