Popular navigation apps unlikely to ditch Mercator maps despite UN resolution

The UN General Assembly passed an African-led resolution urging the use of equal-area projections such as the Equal Earth map, noting that current Mercator maps distort continent sizes. The non-binding vote garnered 164 in favor, six abstentions and a sole U.S. opposition, but it does not compel navigation apps to replace their Mercator displays.
