Proxima Fusion bets €140M on a critical fusion ingredient dominated by Asian suppliers
Proxima Fusion will spend €140 million on a factory that makes fusion-grade high-temperature superconducting tape, needed for reactor magnetic fields. The plant will produce 20,000 km of tape for a demonstration unit and 40,000 km for a commercial plant, with €21 million supplied by Lower Saxony. Most HTS tape today is produced in China and Japan, and the material is also used in high-density data-center equipment.
