Racter (1984)
Racter, a program written in compiled BASIC for a Z80 microcomputer with 64 KB RAM, generates English prose autonomously by applying stored grammatical rules, conjugating verbs, handling noun gender, and maintaining randomly chosen lexical variables. The resulting text, proofread only for spelling, demonstrates that a computer can produce humorous, aesthetically interesting sentences without human-authored content.
