Researchers get two genetic codes to work at the same time

Researchers have demonstrated a method to run two distinct genetic codes in the same bacterial system without re-engineering the host genome, enabling the incorporation of novel amino acids while preserving the native translation machinery. The approach, tested in vitro, avoids the extensive gene-wide modifications previously required and could speed up synthetic-biology applications, though its performance in living cells remains unverified.
